Presenter: Grant Marven - Board Member
Biography: Grant MarvenI have been amazed by technology and engineering all my life, from getting my first personal computer in the early 80s, to earning a degree in Computer Science and later a Master’s in Computer Science, to working in the firmware engineering field for 25+ years. Firmware engineering involves writing computer code for computers on circuit boards. I worked in the audio industry for over 20 years and was the Director of Engineering at a local design center for a Seattle-based company before I retired.
I also have an interest in languages and cultures. I am currently learning Mandarin. I have exchanged English lessons for Mandarin lessons, leading to many Chinese friends. I have adopted a Chinese name (小山 Xiǎoshān, which means "small mountain") to make things easier for my Chinese friends. Currently, I am on the board of the Victoria Canada-China Friendship Association.
